Nov 16, 2023Nov 16, 2023

The governing body for cricket in Pakistan has unveiled new jerseys for its national teams as the men’s team prepares to take part in the ICC Cricket World Cup coming up this fall in India.

The jerseys were unveiled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday, August 28, during a ceremony at the the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan. Dubbed the “Star Nation Jersey,” it features a dark green base with outlines of stars in different shades of green radiating out from the center. It has a dark green polo collar and solid green sleeves.

“PAKISTAN” is written out in white across the midsection, while the country’s flag sits atop the national team logo on the left chest. The World Cup logo is printed in white on the right chest.

The Star Nation Jersey signifies more than a mere piece of apparel; it embodies the profound connection between Pakistan’s cricketing heroes and their steadfast supporters. Drawing inspiration from celestial bodies, each star symbolises brilliance, aspiration, and the radiant glow of cricketing achievements. This design philosophy encapsulates the spirit of cricketing excellence, resonating deeply with every Pakistani cricket enthusiast.

“The Star Nation Jersey bears witness to the enduring bond between our cricketers and the passionate fans who stand by them through every match,” said Zaka Ashraf, chair of the PCB management committee. “This jersey encapsulates our rich cricketing heritage and the luminous future that awaits.”

“The Star Nation Jersey isn’t just a uniform; it’s a canvas woven with stories, sacrifices, and triumphs,” added PCB commercial director Usman Waheed. “Each star on this jersey represents the unwavering support of our fans and the radiant legacy of our cricketing heroes. Every detail has been meticulously crafted to ensure that donning this jersey will instill profound pride in every Pakistani.”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) currently ranks Pakistan as the world’s number one team in the one-day international (ODI) format. Australia is close behind in second place, with India, New Zealand and England rounding out the top five. Pakistan has won the World Cup once, in 1992, while finishing as runners-up in 1999.

In ODI cricket, each team has 50 overs of six balls each to score the most runs possible without losing all 10 of its wickets.

Ahead of the World Cup, Pakistan is hosting and competing in the 2023 Asia Cup, which is also played under the ODI format. The tournament kicks off on Wednesday, August 30, when Pakistan takes on Nepal at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, Pakistan.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will held from October 5 to November 19 in 10 venues across India:
